Brighton – Liverpool

In Brighton, at least three goals will be scored.

Brighton were promoted from the Championship to the Premier League in 2017. For several years the team fought for survival, but since the 2021/2022 season it has shed that rather precarious status. Since Graham Potter's last year in charge at Brighton, the Seagulls have established themselves as a thorn in the side of the favorites and contenders for the fringes of the Premier League's European qualification spots. At one point Brighton managed to reach the Europa League, but the club's path ended with a Round of 16 defeat to Italian Roma. In the current season the Seagulls are far from qualifying for European competition and have already ended their run in domestic cups. Interestingly, in the FA Cup in mid-February their path was blocked by Liverpool. Then the Reds at Anfield delivered a 3-0 thrashing of Brighton. The goals were scored by Jones, Szoboszlai and Salah. The Merseyside club itself approaches another Premier League round in a very vulnerable period. Only on Wednesday Arne Slot's team took a convincing revenge in the Champions League Round of 16 against Galatasaray. In the league, however, there is no room for error. A 90th-minute goal costing Liverpool a win over Tottenham in the previous round did not allow Liverpool to return to the Champions League places. The aim of reaching the top four is the minimum objective for Slot and his players. The pre-season plan to defend the championship title at Anfield has long since failed. Bookmakers have named the visitors the favorites for the upcoming match, offering odds of 2.25 on their victory. Brighton visit the home match as the twelfth-placed team in the table, with no risk of relegation and with a chance to reach European positions. This situation has helped the Seagulls in recent weeks. The absence of pressure has allowed Brighton to win three of the last four matches. Apart from the defeat to Arsenal, which in English football is presently not something to criticize. Most of Fabian Hurzeler's team's matches end with low scores, but this time the total will depend on their opponent. Arne Slot understands perfectly that one or even two goals will not be enough for Brighton, so he will opt for an attacking approach. The head-to-head statistics between the teams point to plenty of goals.
