In the first half of the last century, GAIS from Gothenburg was one of the most successful football clubs in Sweden. Having won six championship titles by 1954, the team gradually slipped into the second-tier role, moving between the top division and the second-tier divisions of the country. In 2021, GAIS experienced a sad story - the club was relegated from the Superettan to the third division. However, it was precisely this unfortunate event that gave a boost to the club's development. In the third division, the team was led by Fredrik Holmberg, who immediately made it champions and returned them to the Superettan. In the very next season GAIS finished second and instantly broke into Allsvenskan, where it also progressed for two consecutive years. The apex of another period of growth for the club was finishing third in the last championship, which will allow Holmberg and his players to play in the Conference League qualifiers in the summer of this year. The start of the current season for GAIS was chaotic, with a search for motivating factors. As if the team has hit its ceiling and doesn't know what to do next. It is unlikely Holmberg's squad in its current form is ready to contend for the championship, and maintaining the positions gained is another art. Kalmar, in the current season, has returned to Allsvenskan. The departure from the elite of Swedish football proved short-lived. Tony Koskela's team also started poorly in the championship, but closer to the end of April it picked up pace and began to collect points. Bookmakers have identified the home team as favorites for the upcoming match, offering odds of 1.81 for their victory. GAIS started the season with three losses and two draws. Holmberg's authority in the squad helped to turn the situation around. The six-match unbeaten run that followed the sequence of defeats ended in the last match against Sirius. However, the club from Uppsala is now such a tough nut that no one has yet found a way to crack. Kalmar were two points behind their upcoming opponent, but had played one fewer game. A peculiarity of this team, which may affect the result of the match, is its dependence on its stadium. It happened that Kalmar have taken all nine points at home in nine rounds, losing all four away matches.
