Luis Enrique's main task for the current season was to keep the team in good shape. Overall, the Spanish coach managed to avoid a crisis in the broad sense of the word, but by many indicators the French champion looks less convincing. Newcastle United did not participate in European competitions last season, which allowed them to focus on the Premier League and secure a place in the Champions League spots. This season the Magpies are focusing on the main European tournament, performing considerably worse on the domestic stage. The task for PSG and Newcastle in the final round of the group stage is to hold their position in the Top 8. The clubs sit 6th and 7th, with thirteen points each. An equal number of points has been earned by six other clubs, five of which dream to break into the Top 8 after the eighth matchday. This means that neither PSG nor Newcastle will be satisfied with a draw to achieve the objective. Bookmakers have identified the home side as the favorites for the upcoming match, offering odds of 1.50 on their win. PSG, following the last round of Ligue 1, returned to the top of the table by beating Auxerre. At the same time, January 2026 can hardly be considered a successful month for the team, even though they won the French Super Cup. During the current month the Parisians were eliminated from the French Cup, losing in the derby, and in the previous round of the Champions League they shook their position with a defeat to Sporting. Newcastle have won only in the Champions League in their last four matches. In matches against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Wolverhampton, the Magpies did not score a single goal, managing not to lose only the last one. In Paris, Eddie Howe's side will arrive with a clear understanding of the balance of power between the rivals, and will focus on defense. It's unlikely that the two teams will score four or more goals in total.
